KANSAS CITY — Kansas City TV Channel 5 has been promoting a segment on meth labs and Anderson County sheriff Jeff Hupp scheduled to air tonight on the nightly news at 10. Hupp said that Channel 5 is doing stories about the state’s plan to cut funding for hazardous waste cleanup. The reporters wanted to talk a sheriff from a small rural county, he said. Hupp said whenever officers find a meth lab, they have to treat and dispose of the remaining chemicals as hazardous waste. The cleanup can reach into thousands of dollars, he said. Cleanup funds are intact through this year and may be available into next year, he said. However, he said cutting the funds will pose a serious problem for small counties.
