TOPEKA — Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services secretary Rob Siedlecki has resigned. He will step down Dec. 31 to take a position with the state of Florida to be closer to his family. Governor Sam Brownback’s office announced his resignation and expressed thanks to Siedlecki. For his part, Siedlecki said he had promised a good year to Brownback and he said he’s pleased with what he accomplished while head of the SRS. Siedlecki has been secretary for about a year and his tenure has been controversial. His proposal to close SRS offices in several cities created friction with city and county officials and legislators. His push for faith-based marriage and fathering programs in the SRS, and pushing hundreds of SRS employees to take early retirement, made waves and made the social welfare community nervous.
