LAWRENCE – The end of the year also means the end of one of the nation’s longest-running radio programs. Dr. Jim Seaver’s public radio show “Opera is My Hobby” – has aired weekly on Kansas Public Radio KANU for more than 59 years. The last episode will be 7 p.m. Dec. 30. The final show will be about Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus,: which is often performed around the New Year’s holiday. Kansas Public Radio has been airing encore broadcasts of “Opera is My Hobby” since march, when Seaver died at the age of 92. The Seaver family helped choose the encore episodes that have been broadcast since his death. In addition to doing the program, Seaver taught history at KU for decades.
