OTTAWA — A fire at the Ottawa utility center, 324 S. Beech, Monday morning spread smoke but did a small amount of damage in the building. The fire was apparently started when an overhead heater malfunction and dropped a spark into a bin of combustible items in a storage rack, Ottawa Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. Utility employees discovered the blaze and were using fire extinguishers on the fire when firefighers arrived, he said. Firefighters vented out the smoke. Damage was minimal, he said.
