OTTAWA – The fifth annual Prom Boutique is Saturday from 9 to 1 at the Ottawa First United Methodist Church for girls in Franklin, Miami, Anderson, Osage and Coffey counties. Organizer Lisa Rivers, Ottawa Volunteer Center director at ECKAN, said there will be about 400 prom dresses, plus accessories, available for free, as well as refreshments, prizes and beauty and health advice. Even if girls already have their prom dresses, they’re still welcome to meet with the consultants and enjoy the refreshments. The boutique got its start because many families can’t afford the increasing costs associated with proms, she said. Because of these costs, the prom is often an unforeseeable reality, rather than every girl’s dream,” Rivers said. There are a limited supply of tuxedoes available for young men, she said.  Call 242-7450, Ext. 7209, to check on a tuxedo.
