Ottawa police say they’re following up a report of what may have been an attempted kidnapping Saturday evening. A child told police that while the child was playing in the family’s backyard in the 700 block of West Seventh, an unidentified male wearing all-black clothing approached the child. Police didn’t say if the child was a boy or girl, nor did police give the age of the child. Police said what occurred next aren’t clear but the child became aware that he or she was about one-and-a-half blocks from the home and returned home. The child apparently wasn’t injured, police said. Police conducted an extensive neighborhood canvass of the area but found no witnesses or other evidence. Police will continue to follow up the incident and try to gather more information and find witnesses or suspects.
