PAOLA — For some area grain farmers, the rains occurring during the last couple of weeks offer some hope for the drought-stricken fall crops. For the later-planted soybeans, if they’re still green and aren’t losing their leaves or pods, the rain will be a big help in rescuing the crop, Miami County Extension agriculture and natural resources agent Cody Sloan said. Soybeans and corn are the most important cash grain in east central Kansas and both have been severely damaged by this year’s drought.
