OTTAWA — County public works director Jim Haag told county commissioners Monday he’d like to recap 12 used road grader tires. The low bidder, GCR Truck Tire Centers, Topeka, would recap tires at $677.25 per tire. The recaps would cost less money than new tires and still have guarantees that they would last as long as new tires, Haag said.. And it’s not like he has any choice. Haag says no tire company has been willing to offer bids to the county for new grader tires. Because new tires are being snapped up overseas, counties are finding it difficult to find new tires, he said. Commissioners will vote on his proposal at Wednesday’s meeting.
