OTTAWA — The Ottawa school board voted Monday night to join the city of Ottawa’s new high-speed broadband Internet utility. Earlier, city officials had encouraged both the school district and county to sign up and the county commissioners agreed. However, because the school district gets a 70 percent discount by going through the state E-Rate group, Ottawa USD 290 Supt. Dean Katt says the city internet utility bid had to be run through E-Rate group before accepting it. The city’s bid had the advantage of being the lowest while promising faster speeds than other bidders, he said. “We’re really pleased with it,” Katt said.
