OTTAWA- Ottawa High School ran a lock-down procedure drill yesterday afternoon. Principal Dr. Ryan Cobbs said the procedure went well and keeps the school prepared for any given situation.
“We need to make sure that if there, there have been times when we’ve had to go into exterior and interior lock down based on police activity in out area that has nothing to do with our school, and when those things happen we need to make sure that we’re prepared and understand how it works,” Cobbs said. “Randomly throughout the year we pick dates to try to do it and make sure we’re prepared to continue to have a safe learning environment for our kids.”
The school utilized the sheriff’s department’s K-9 unit for an in-depth search of the building for contraband, which came up empty. Cobbs said the school tries to do these drills at least once a semester, if not once a quarter.
