KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Chiefs fired head coach Romeo Crennel this morning. Chiefs president Clark Hunt said Crennel helped guide the football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season but Hunt said he was embarrassed by the Chiefs’ play and felt he needed to make a change. Hunt said he will begin the search for the next head coach immediately. Crennell’s firing was one of several announced by pro football teams today, in what commentators have dubbed “Black Friday. Three general managers were also fired but Hunt said no final determination has been made on the future of controversial general manager Scott Pioli. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come, Hunt said. In his statement concerning Crennel, Hunt apologized to fans, who were increasingly angered as the season with a dismal 2-14 record.
