OTTAWA – A 39-year-old Ottawa man remains in the Franklin County jail in connection with the shooting of a 4-year-old boy Friday in the 1100 block of North Oak Street in Ottawa. Brian Keith Bruno was booked for on suspicion of aggravated endangerment of a child, endangerment and criminal discharge of a firearm. Bruno was held being pending a formal court appearance. Bruno was showing a handgun to someone else and pulled the trigger, thinking the gun was unloaded, Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler said. The gun went off, hitting the boy, who was sitting on the floor, in the upper leg, Butler said. The child was treated at the scene by the Ottawa Fire Department and Franklin County Ambulance Service; the child was taken by ambulance to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City with apparent non-life threatening injuries. There were two other adults and two other children inside the house when the firearm was discharged; no one else was injured, he said. Officers and detectives from both the Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s office continue to investigate the case.
