OTTAWA – Two people were killed in two separate crashes on I-35 Friday. An Overland Park man was killed Friday morning in Coffey County. Eric Johnson, 62, was driving north on I-35, when he left the roadway and struck a bridge post about four miles east of Lebo, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. He was wearing a seat belt. The second fatal accident occurred on I-35 in Johnson County. Elaine Smith, 89, Baldwin City, was driving car south near 119th Street in Olathe Friday night when she ran into the back of an SUV driven by Erin Elizabeth Fogarty, 36, Olathe, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Fogarty’s SUV was stopped because of traffic. Smith was rushed to Olathe Medical Center where she died. Fogarty and her two passengers, 6-year-old children Addison and Kian Fogarty, both 6, may have received injuries but the highway patrol report didn’t say if they were hospitalized. Fogarty and the two children were wearing safety restraints. Smith wasn’t wearing a safety belt, the highway patrol said.
