PAOLA – Classes have resumed at Paola High School this afternoon after police evacuated the building late this morning because of a bomb threat. Someone wrote on a bathroom wall that a bomb in the school would explode at noon, Paola Police Chief Dave Smail said. Students were evacuated to two other schools while officers searched the high school. Local police got extra help searching the building because a bomb dog training event was going on in Olathe this morning, he said. Several of the handlers and their dogs traveled to Paola to offer their services when they heard about the threat. He said it took nearly two hours to search the high school. A school district text told students to return to school this afternoon at 1:10 to take part in athletics tonight. A student was questioned and admitted to writing the threat and said there was no bomb, Smail said. The student said he was lashing out, Smail said.
