WILLIAMSBURG- It was another emotional meeting at the Williamsburg Community Center last night. West Franklin School Board President Thayne Bush held an unofficial meeting with over 50 patrons from Williamsburg, most of whom are vehemently against closing the Williamsburg Elementary School. At one point, Bush asked patrons if they wanted to see if it would be cheaper to have a central elementary school.
“Don’t you want to see what it would cost, and how it would be more efficient if we put everybody on one campus?,” Bush asked. “Isn’t it our job, as a board, to let you know what it costs to do that and the amount of savings we could have to do that?”
Several patrons questioned the millions of dollars the district says are needed to repair the old buildings. One former school official told Bush that the roofs on the buildings are still under warranty, and Bush says he will look into that possibility.
