GARNETT- Long-time Anderson County Commissioner Dudley Feuerborn tells the Anderson County Review that he learned an important lesson not long after he first took office as a Commissioner more than 20 years ago. A bridge east of Garnett had burned and needed to be replaced, but a landowner was opposed to the county’s plans for a new bridge. Feuerborn decided to talk with the man, hoping to avoid a lengthy legal battle for the right-of-way. He heard why the man was against the bridge and found a way to resolve the problem. The man signed a right-of-way agreement and the bridge – now known as the Hiner Bridge – was built. The man and Feuerborn became better friends then.
Feuerborn says learned how important it is for public leaders to listen to the public.
He stepped down earlier this month after deciding not to run for re-election.
