A historian and a former Kansas City Star editor will be the guest speaker for Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet Thursday night. Besides being an editor, Monroe Dodd served as editor and project manager of the history book called ‘Kansas City: An American Story.’ He’s also written the books ‘A Splendid Ride: The Streetcars of Kansas City,’ ‘Christmastime in Kansas City’ and ‘Kansas City Crime Central: 150 Years of Outlaws, Kidnappers, Mobsters and Their Victims.’ The city of Garnett and Sandra’s Quick Stop have been named Businesses of the Year. Dixie Brummel also will be honored at the banquet with the George Clasen Memorial Community Service Award.
