COLONY — A candidate for the Colony City Council is now an uncandidate. Former city council member Steve Wallace filed for the city council last month but Anderson County Clerk Phyllis Gettler told the Anderson County Review that she removed him from the ballot because he’s still on probation for a drug felony. Gettler said she discussed the issue with the Kansas Secretary of State’s office before removing Wallace’s name. That leaves one vacancy on the ballot this April. Wallace resigned from the city council in late 2011 because of a felony drug conviction for distributing marijuana. Convicted felons lose the right to vote in kansas during the term of their sentences, including probation. Many state and local elected offices require that anyone who runs for the office also be eligible to vote. Wallace’s probation ends in July. After Wallace completes his probation, he can reapply for the right to vote and become eligible to file for public office.
