GARNETT — After one shocking surprise, a Garnett electrician is working to prevent another at the Anderson County jail. Some of the wiring at the law enforcement center was incorrectly installed, Gordon Blackie, of Lighthouse Electric, said. The facility was built five years ago. The Anderson County Review reported Blackie showed county commissioners cracked wiring in the main electrical conduit at the jail. Moisture seeps into the conduit and damaged wire, causing a spark and damaging other wires in the conduit, he said. Because the conduit is buried in concrete, it isn’t a fire hazard but it causes electrical outages in the jail, which poses security problems, he said. There also are issues with the emergency system wiring, Blackie said. Blackie hasn’t been able to find wiring plans for the building, and has had to create them.
