SHAWNEE — A Mill Valley High School wrestler who is a girl got a trip to the 5-A state wrestling tournament after two opponents from Catholic schools forfeited rather than wrestle her. Kali Gracy took second place in her weight division of 118 pounds after St. Thomas Aquinas wrestler Gabe Gooch and St. James Academy’s Tyler Hensley were forced to forfeit. Under a relatively new policy, the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kan., won’t allow students to take part in mixed-gender wrestling. Gooch and Hensley made the state tournament by wrestling their way through the losers bracket.
