OLATHE–The Olathe City Council approved an agreement Tuesday that will allow Google Fiber to move into Olathe and southern Johnson County. Google says once it’s installed, its fiberoptic network will provide super-fast internet service. The Kansas City Star reports the deal gives Olathe 5% of the gross receipts generated by Google selling the service. The agreement promises free high-speed connections to up to four public facilities for up to 10 years. The Star notes that’s far fewer than promised to the two Kansas City’s. The Star reports that it could be awhile before Google Fiber is in Olathe homes. The paper says Google is slowly connecting neighborhoods now with just a few homes hooking up to the completed network and has a long way to go before reaching Olathe.
