OTTAWA — The third powerful snow storm in as little as a month snarled traffic and forced the closure of major roads in the area this weekend. U.S. 59 between Garnett and I-35 at Ottawa was closed for nearly six hours Sunday morning. Officials said snow-clearing equipment had to deal with snow drifts five feet tall across the highway. I-35 was also blocked about two hours northeast of Ottawa after a semi-truck jackknifed, causing a minor injury to the driver. The storm dumped up to eight inches of snow on some areas but driving winds and blinding snow made driving treacherous. “As soon as our trucks cleared a road and turned around, t he road would be drifted again,” Franklin County public works director Jim Haag said. There were also scattered brief power outages.
