OTTAWA — The Franklin County Republican Party has officially called a Special Election Convention to name a new Sheriff. The Convention will be next Thursday evening at 7 at the Ottawa Church of the Nazarene at Seventh and Elm. Although only Republican Committee members can vote, the Convention is open to the public. Sheriff Jeff Curry, who was arrested last month, has announced his resignation, effective April 1. One person, Jeff Richards, who is GOP County Chair, Ottawa City Commissioner, and an Overland Park Police Detective, has formally announced his candidacy.
