Miami County voters will have to decide on bond proposals for tomorrow’s election. All Miami County voters will decide wither they want to raise the county’s sales tax by a quarter-cent to pay for a new county jail. The County Commissioners have agreed to buy a 20-acre plot of land at 311th Street and Hedge Lane on the southeastern corner of Paola. Some voters will have two school bond issues to decide. The Osawatomie School Board has proposed a $3.2 million bond issue to close Swenson Early Childhood Center and move students to Trojan Elementary School and other improvements. Once again, the Prairie View School Board has proposed to close the Fontana School and for improvements to other schools. The Board isn’t planning a bond issue. The Board will refinance existing debt and extend it by 12 years. There are a handful of municipal races, mostly for the Osawatomie City Council, where three of four seats are contested. In Precinct 1, Ted Hunter faces Will Cutbuth. In Precinct 2, incumbent Mike Moon is being challenged by Amanda Martin. In Precinct 3, Brett Henderson faces Jeffrey Walmann. The only other contested race is in Louisburg, where Tim Barnes and David Cannon are seeking the Precinct 2 council seat. School board races are also uncontested except for position 5 in Prairie View USD 362. Candidates are Renee Slinkard of Parker, who is protesting the closing of Fontana School, and Wade Teagarden of Lacygne.
