FRANKLIN COUNTY –Sometime in the next few weeks, voters in the Central Heights School District should start looking for mail ballots so they can vote on a proposed $1.7 million bond issue. The district is holding several community meetings, with the first Wednesday night in Rantoul. The money will pay for a new roof on the 46-year-old school, Superintendent Jim White said. Other improvements include a new locker and weight room, new music and band room and improvements in the gymnasium, he said. White said the bond is especially attractive because the state of Kansas will pay 46% of the total bond, meaning taxpayers pay 54%. The mail ballots are expected to start going out in late may, and the results will be tabulated on June 4.
