LAWRENCE — The Kansas African Studies Center will host Kansas University’s second-annual Africa World Documentary Film Festival Wednesday night through Saturday. Sixteen films will focus on knowledge and culture of the people of Africa. The films vary from the musical life of South African singer Miriam Makeba in “Mama Africa” to issues of housing and the law in “Dear Mandela.” One of the films called, “My Mother’s Club,” was directed by Kansas City filmmaker Rodney Thompson. His film centers on African-American women’s social clubs in Kansas City between the 1940s and 1960s. Films will be screened in Wescoe Hall rooms 3139 and 3140. Films are free and open to the public.
