OTTAWA — Sarah Caylor is Ottawa’s new mayor for the year. Her fellow city commissioners elected her at Wednesday night’s reorganization meeting. The position is largely ceremonial. Linda Reed, who was re-elected earlier this month, was named the mayor pro-tem, who will serve as mayor in Caylor’s absence. New commissioner Mike Skidmore was sworn in, as was City Commissioner Jeff Richards. However, Richards’ term could like be the shortest ever – two minutes at most. Richards, was re-elected to the city commission earlier this month but became sheriff last week. Acting on the advice of city officials, he formally accepted his city commission seat, then resigned. The commission will ask for applicants to fill his two-year term.
