OTTAWA — New Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards asked County Commissioners Wednesday to proceed with the original plans to buy three new Dodge Charger patrol cars this year. Overland Park Jeep Dodge Chrysler’s bid of $22,850 expires Monday and if the county doesn’t accept, it would be next year before the department could get new cars, Richards said. Because an older Ford patrol car was damaged during the last blizzard, the Commissioners gave Richards the authority to negotiate to buy a fourth car at the same price. Originally, the county ordered the cars in a dark blue color but Richards says he decided on dark gray cars because they cost about $500 less for each car.
