ANDERSON COUNTY — The unexpected departure of the county’s Emergency Management Director will give Anderson County Commissioners a chance to evaluate the department and staff.  The Anderson County Review reports Emergency Management Director Marvin Grimes resigned recently to take another job. County Commissioners asked his assistant, J.D. Mersman, if he wanted the job and were waiting to hear his views on the department.  Grimes and Mersman have told Commissioners they believe two people are needed to run the department.  But Commissioners say they want to learn more about the responsibilities and duties to determine what kind of staff is necessary.  Each county in Kansas must maintain a detailed Emergency Management Plan to prepare for emergencies and coordinate responses to disasters.  Anderson County, is among a small group of counties where the Emergency Management Department oversees its rural Fire Departments.  Commissioners also have asked its Human Resources consultant, the Austin Peters Group, to review the department and offer recommendations.
