KANSAS CITY — The final phase of a 5-county regional transportation study that includes Miami County has been completed. The recommendations of the report are intended to help the Kansas Department of Transportation’s upcoming long-range update with regard to the Kansas City metro area and surrounding counties. The recommendations will also be used as part of the project selection in the five-county region. The report also discusses a southwestern Johnson County traffic corridor, which has sparked sharp opposition from southern Johnson County residents, especially in the fast-growing Stanley and Blue Valley areas. The two-phase study assessed the changing transportation needs in Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte counties.
KDOT, the Mid-America Regional Council and the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization conducted the study. You can see the report on-line at: kdotapp2.ksdot.org/5countystudy.
