KANSAS CITY — A 37-year-old Ottawa woman has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for her role in a drug trafficking ring tied to the death of an Ottawa man who died from taking a mixture of prescription drugs. Tamara Ledom pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, hydrocodone, methadone, morphine and methamphetamine resulting in the death of a user, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. Ledom admitted that she was a member of a drug trafficking ring headed by Connie Edwards that distributed prescription drugs and other controlled substances in Franklin County. On May 10, 2009, William Thomas Powell died after taking a toxic combination of methadone, hydrocodone and carisoprodol bought from Edwards and Ledom. Edwards has been sentenced to 25 years. Six other members of the drug ring face sentencing. They are Brittany Edwards, Shirley Price, Dustin Price, Joel Keith Price, Brandi Bivens, and Angela Mitchell. Two other people have also been sentenced. Morgan Price was sentenced to five years probation with six months in a halfway house, and Florence Edwards, who was sentenced to 12 months probation.
