EMPORIA — The ‘Sundays on the Porch’ series returns Sunday to Red Rocks State Historic Site, the home of the William Allen White family in Emporia. The series consists of four free weekly programs each Sunday afternoon at 2 during June. An Ottawa author will be one of the speakers during the series. On June 9, Diana Staresinic-Deane will talk about the newspaper reporting by the Coffey County Republican and the Emporia Gazette of Florence Knoblock’s murder in Coffey County. She wrote a book about the unsolved bloody 1925 murder of the farm wife. Other programs include a presentation on the history of Emporia and Lyon County in the early 20th century this Sunday; a musical performance by Lunadaz, featuring Shiuvaun and Michael Debacker, on June 16; and an audio presentation of the 1944 “NBC Cavalcade of America” broadcast from Emporia, on June 23. The series was inspired by the White family’s legendary hospitality. If a member of the family was on the porch of their Emporia home, guests were welcome to join them for a visit.
