WICHITA — Wichita State University has fired baseball legend and head coach Gene Stephenson, the man who built Shocker baseball out of nothing. Stephenson coached the Shockers 36 years and led them to a national championship and reached the College World Series seven times. However, the Wichita Eagle reported the Shockers’ baseball fortunes faded over the last five years and Wichita State athletic director Eric Sexton chose to seek a new coach.
