LAWRENCE — The Kansas Memorial Wake, a protest aimed at Governor Sam Brownback’s income tax cuts, is Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 in Lawrence. The mock funeral begins at the Plymouth Congregational Church and moves to the South Park Gazebo. The left-leaning activist group MoveOn.org says Brownback’s steep income tax cuts and budget policy will cause long-term damage to the state and gut public education. The group says his tax plan gives corporations a free ride and places the burden of paying for state government on the middle class and poor. The group says the mock funeral was prompted by a satirical column in the Hutchinson News written as an obituary for the state. The public is invited.
