POMONA — Opponents of a proposed bond issue for the West Franklin school district that failed are crying foul and say they plan to attend tonight’s school board meeting at 7 at the Pomona Education Center. The agenda for tonight’s meeting includes a cost estimate for closing schools at Williamsburg and Appanoose and consolidating all schools at Pomona. The agenda notes that Supt. Dotson Bradbury said he was asked by the school board to develop the cost estimate if the bond issue proposal failed. Last week was the finale of a mail ballot in which West Franklin voters overwhelmingly rejected the the nearly $16 million bond proposal, which would have closed schools at Williamsburg and Appanoose and consolidated all the district’s schools at Pomona. Bradbury’s proposal on tonight’s agenda would cost nearly $2.6 million. About $1 million would go to installing 10 modular classrooms at Pomona. However, the future of the proposal would be in doubt. Earlier his spring, opponents of the bond issue also turned out four incumbents on the school board, which would give the opponents a majority of votes on the board when they’re sworn in July 1.
