GARDNER — The Gardner-Edgerton USD 231 School Board has named Christy Ziegler as Interim Superintendent for 60 days. Ziegler is Executive Director of District Educational Services. The current Superintendent, Bill Gilhaus, announced his retirement effective July 1. However, the news website Gardner Edge reports the Board will hire Gilhaus back as Superintendent in September. Kansas Public Employee Retirement System rules say school districts can rehire employees who retire after 60 days of their retirement date. The districts also pay a surcharge.
