GARNETT — The search continues for a man who broke into a Garnett home and attacked two men last week, leaving one of them hospitalized. Sheriff Vernon Valentine tells the Anderson County Review that the attack at a home on East Fourth Avenue, just outside Garnett wasn’t random. He says the attacker called one of the victims by name. Shortly before 3 in the morning of June 6 someone broke into 84-year-old Laverne Scheckel’s home and attacked his son, 54-year-old Roger Scheckel. Valentine says Laverne Scheckel was injured when he tried to help his son. He was not seriously hurt and was able to escape the house and alert the law. The paper says Roger Scheckel was hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Valentine declines to say what type of weapon was used in the attack.
