OTTAWA — The 18th annual Battle for Blood comes to Ottawa Wednesday.  The Community Blood Center event pits firefighters and police officers in a friendly competition to see who can collect the most blood.  The public can join the fray by donating and designating either police or fire with their blood donation vote.  The Ottawa event will be noon to 6 Wednesday at Celebration Hall in Ottawa.  The Community Blood Center’s David Graham says the Center currently has less than a half-day’s supply of O Negative blood on its shelves, and needs 580 volunteers each day to donate blood to have a sufficient supply for patients in area hospitals.  You can make an appointment to give blood by going online at esavealifenow.org. Use sponsor code ‘ottawabb.’  You can also call Leann Delong at 785-233-0195.
