OTTAWA — After getting rained out last week, the Ottawa City Band will perform tonight at 7:30 at City Park. Last week’s children’s concert will be tonight instead, band director Mark Paquette said. He said one addition will be a composer you probably don’t know but who’s music you know pretty well – Raymond Scott’s “The Toy Trumpet.” “Raymond Scott was a man way ahead of his time,” he said. “He was a composer but he invented several electronic instruments.” Warner Brothers cartoon composer Carl Stalling used many of Scott’s tunes, including “Powerhouse,” as the backdrop to Loony Tunes antics, Paquette said. More modern animators have also borrowed from Scott’s music, including “Ren and Stimpey” and “Animaniacs,” he said. Bring blankets and lawn chairs.
