ANDERSON COUNTY — A 24-year-old man has agreed to a plea deal that could keep him from facing a long time in prison for having sex with a teenage girl. The Anderson County Review reports Nicolas Andrew Clark was originally charged with battery and sex crimes after he was accused having sex with a girl who was just shy of her 14th birthday in July 2011. The Review reports that plea negotiations occurred in the wake of mental health evaluations of Clark by both the defense and prosecution. Anderson County Attorney Brandon Jones declined to discuss details of the case but The Review reports Jones filed an amended complaint charging Clark only with aggravated battery. Judge Eric Godderz has scheduled a review of the case for Wednesday. The paper says the girl represented herself on Facebook as being at least 20 years old, and she told Clark she was old enough to consent to sex.
