GARNETT — The Garnett post office will close over the noon hour and open later and close earlier at the end of the day starting July 8. The Anderson County Review says the cut in office hours is part of an effort by the US Postal Service to save money in the midst of a financial crisis. The new hours will be 9 to noon, and 1 to 4 Monday through Friday. The Saturday hours will remain the same, from 8:30 to noon. Nearly all other area post offices – including those at Westphalia, Colony, Greeley, Kincaid, Welda, Richmond and will reduce office hours by two or more hours per day. Those smaller offices had originally been scheduled to be closed, but a public outcry and Congressional pressure canceled the closures.
