OSAWATOMIE — The John Brown Museum and State Historic Site will host a Civil War encampment with re-enactors and an ice cream social this weekend. The encampment will be 9-5 Saturday and 9-1 Sunday. The encampment is free to the public.
Visitors can learn about the daily lives of Civil Sar soldiers and see drill maneuvers and weapons collection, museum director Grady Atwater said. The ice cream social will be 7-9 Saturday night. Ice cream is 50 cents per scoop, with proceeds benefiting educational programs at the museum. The ice cream social includes a Civil War-era music concert with performances by the Band of Oz and Uncloudy Day.
