OTTAWA — There’s one obvious sign of the improvement project on Davis Road – a set of traffic lights at the Davis Road intersection at K-68.  City Manager Richard Nienstedt said the lights should be operating soon.  He said the work is on schedule and should be done later this year.  The project also includes widening Davis Road and adding turning lanes and new storm sewers.  The project got started with some help from Topeka, Nienstedt said.  After failing to get federal earmarks, Nienstedt talked to state Sen. Pat Apple, who brought city and state transportation officials together.  The state came up with money, which will pay most of the costs of the project, Nienstedt said.  The city is looking for federal money to overhaul Davis Road north of the project to the new U.S. 59, he said.
