LAWRENCE — A three-week University of Kansas Institute focused on black poetry will host free public events that will examine the relationship between poetry and culture.  Among the public events, the opening reception for the Institute and accompanying gallery exhibit  called ‘Voicing America’ 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at KU’s Spencer Museum of Art.  The ‘Summer Scholar Open Mic Night’ will be on two Sunday evenings beginning at 5 on this Sunday and July 28 at Genovese Restaurant, at 941 Massachusetts, in Lawrence.  The presentation ‘Poetry and its Publics,’ will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the KU Hall Center for the Humanities.  More details about the events and the Institute can be found at the website ‘Don’t Deny My Voice.’
