MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Commission is reopening the question of where to put the new Miami County Jail. The Miami County Republic says the Commission has tabled action on a 20-acre site at 311th Street and Hedge Lane near Paola. The Republic reports that one complication is that the site isn’t zoned to allow a jail, and Commissioners concede that rezoning it will be more difficult than expected. The county will reopen its discussion on potential sites, including the Paola site. The Commissioners plan to host more public meetings across the county over the next few weeks. Earlier this year, voters approved a quarter-cent sales tax increase to play to build a new jail.
