LAWRENCE — A community celebration will mark the 90th birthday of former US Senator Bob Dole on July 22 at the Dole Institute of Politics at Kansas University. The birthday celebration will include cupcakes, story time, making political buttons and signing a birthday card to Dole. Dole is not expected to attend. Dole served in the US Senate nearly 30 years, when he retired to run unsuccessfully for president against Democratic incumbent Bill Clinton. Dole was severely wounded in battle in Italy during World War II.
