LAWRENCE — The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Douglas County Sheriff’s office is asking the public for any information they may have about a traffic accident that killed a 29-year-old Lawrence bicyclist Sunday night. The accident occurred Sunday night shortly after 8 at the intersection of the K-10 bypass and 27th Street, which is controlled by a stop light at the entrance to the sports field complex, in south Lawrence, Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Lewis said. Anyone who may have been in the area at that time or saw the accident is asked to call sheriff’s detective Jay Armbrister at (785) 330-2828. They’re especially interested in a red passenger car that drove through the intersection just before the accident, Lewis said. The Lawrence Journal-World reported Hayley Berrios was part of a group of bicyclists from a church group crossing the South Lawrence Trafficway, when she was struck by a pickup driven by 67-year-old Walter Spencer, 67, of Lawrence.
