GARDNER — The planned closure early this morning of the north-bound and south-bound right-hand lanes of I-35 at Homestead Lane at Gardner was postponed because of the rain. The closure has been pushed back to Thursday and will remain closed through mid-September, the Kansas Department of Transportation said. The closures are because of ramp tie-in work for the new interchange. KDOT said it has launched a temporary traffic system along I-35 between K-33 in Franklin County and U.S. 56 in southern Johnson County. The new system is called the “I-35 Smart Work-Zone Traffic System.” The Smart Work-Zone Traffic System includes portable changeable message signs, cameras, speed sensors, and variable speed limit signs that will monitor traffic flow and alert drivers to potential delays, KDOT said. Drivers will be able to view the roadways and obtain real-time traffic information online at public.jamlogic.com/zone/ks-i35homestead. Also, a link to the site can be found on KDOT’s 511 and on the KC Scout Web sites. I-35 was closed this past weekend so crews could remove the old Homestead Lane bridge.
