WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture has agreed to a request by US Senator Pat Roberts to allow haying and grazing of certain CP 25 Conservation Reserve Program lands. Some Kansas livestock producers are in dire need of using the CRP lands for grazing and haying because of several years of intense, record-setting drought, especially in western Kansas, Roberts said. Kansas has 2.3 million acres enrolled in CRP, including 850,000 acres designated as CP 25. Most Kansas CP 25 acreage is in areas experiencing severe and prolonged drought.
