OTTAWA — Bicycles continued to disappear from Ottawa homes and yards this weekend. A 34-year-old Ottawa man reported his bicycle was stolen from the 300 block of East Fourth Street Sunday night. A 45-year-old Ottawa man reported two bicycles were stolen from the 1000 block of South Willow Street Friday night. There has been a rash of bike thefts this summer. Investigators don’t have enough information to know if the bicycle thefts are related, Ottawa Police Captain Adam Weingartner said. However, he said bicycle thefts typically increase in the summer time when school is out. Most bicycles stolen are left outside or not locked up, he said. An easy way to prevent the bicycles from being stolen is to put them in a garage at night or lock them up on the back yard, Weingartner said. The Department has recovered several bicycles that may have been stolen, he said. If you’re missing a bicycle, you can contact the Evidence Custodian and Property Officer from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday at the Police Department.
